The Herald & Review is seeking an enterprising reporter to cover government and related issues in our community.

Situated in the heart of Illinois, the Decatur area has a rich agricultural and industrial history. It is the home to the North American headquarters for Archer Daniels Midland Co. and Caterpillar Inc. It also hosts the Farm Progress Show, which attracts national political/industry leaders and international visitors, every other year.

Decatur is home to a private university, a community college that is vital to meeting our changing workforce needs, a thriving park district, a large recreational lake and access to a growing list of activities to keep its residents and visitors entertained.

The community is in the midst of a resurgence, with major industrial and community projects in the works. The next government reporter will have a front-row seat to our changing city, detailing for our readers what is going right - and what isn't - along the way.

We value meaningful and memorable journalism that focuses on the voices of real people, starts conversations and offers a sense of place. Our newsroom also seeks to offer opportunities for reporters to go beyond beat coverage and develop skills in which they have an interest.

Are you hoping to grow your video production skills, work more with data, hone your voice on long-form pieces or cultivate your FOIA chops? Whatever it is, let's talk.
