About this Opportunity

Ball State University Libraries is searching for an energetic and detail-oriented individual to join our committed and highly-engaged team of Cataloging and Discovery Services staff, responsible for performing a variety of activities to optimize user discovery and access for resources in University Libraries' collections through our online discovery system. Ball State University Libraries employs 48 professionals and 62 staff employees. With access to over one million print volumes and more than 1.3 million e-resources, the Libraries provides access to a full spectrum of scholarly resources and also offers vibrant and inclusive learning and collaboration space for the entire learning community at Ball State.

Position Function

Perform authority control functions and cataloging of books, maps, and media to facilitate user discovery of scholarly resources that support teaching and learning; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

Over one year of related experience.

Minimum Other

Excellent attention to detail; strong organizational skills; ability to work with spreadsheets and data records; working knowledge of basic Microsoft applications; effective oral and written communication skills.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Verify name, series, subject, and uniform title headings in authority records using reports and the OCLC online authority file; edit affected bibliographic and authority records in the local library management system.

Identify conflicting name, series, subject, and uniform title headings, cross references and authority records in the local library management system; resolve routine authority conflicts according to current best practices and standards; forward complex authority conflicts to Authority Control and Bibliographic Control Librarian.

Verify the correct form of name, series, subject and uniform title headings not found in the online authority file according to current best practices and standards; revise and/or review local authority records; create authority records for the local library management system as needed.
